Why the Small Wedding?!

Picture
We've been going back and forth about what we want for our wedding. Initially, I did not care to have a large wedding and Willie really wanted to celebrate with everyone. So, our compromise was a small wedding of about 50 guests. Once we started looking for wedding venues, we found that catering and event spaces have larger minimums and expensive food/beverage minimum costs. So, we found this one place that was a great deal, but we had to have (or pay for) at least 75 guests.

Okay, our small wedding was turning into a large wedding with large costs. So, we had to re-think what we really wanted. We both don't want to go into debt because of a wedding and what matters most is that the two of us are married and that the marriage is shared with our parents and performed by our pastor. Knowing the financial hurdles we will have in the future, it would not be wise for us to spend lots of money on a big, extravagant wedding. We just want to invest more time, money and resources into the marriage and the many days following the wedding day.

So, we have decided to do a small, intimate wedding ceremony of only a few guests, follwed by dinner. No fancy dress, no loads of flowers, no wedding march, no DJ, no guests waiting for the food to be served, no lavish reception. What really matters is that this wedding is a memorable joining of our lives together in the presence of God and our family!

Our wedding will be held at Ferrari' Italian Villa in Addison, TX on Friday, February 12, 2010 (exactly one year from the day we started our courtship).

Before we exchange rings, they will be passed to each of our guests to briefly hold the rings and silently "warm" them with his or her blessing, prayers, and well wishes for our marriage.  When it is time for us to exchange rings, the rings will have been warmed by the love and support of our family and friends.
